Amazon Prime Day USA Deals

I have collected links to some Amazon Prime Day deals that might be of interest to miniature hobbyists. Purchases made through these Amazon affliate links help me pay the maintenance fees for this site, at no additional cost to you. Unless stated otherwise, I do not have any personal experience with these products. (Updated for October 10-11 2023 Prime Deals.)

f you want to check whether a price really is a great deal, you can check it against the collected data on the camelcamelcamel site. Enter the name of the product or the URL link in the search box. If you get a list of returns, find your product. Scroll down a bit to see a graph of the Amazon history for that item, and a list of highest, lowest, and average prices.

When you look through products, look for a red banner/badge that says Prime Big Deal. That indicates an active deal. It should display a percentage savings, current price, and typical price.

You should check the listing for a coupon! You may see an orange Coupon badge, and/or green text. Check the box in this area to apply the coupon and save even more!

Miniature Brands

My main link for a brand takes you to a search of Prime Day specials for that brand. Amazon search results include sponsored items from other manufacturers, in a way that is not always immediately obvious. I am including a second link to a brand’s Amazon store front. You will see only that brand’s products on the store front, but you’ll need to comb through all of their pages to find items that are part of the Prime Day promotion.

The Army Painter
A selection of paints, brushes, tools, and other supplies on Prime Day sale. (Army Painter store front.)

WizKids
Sale items include pre-painted settings, characters, and WarLock Dungeon products from the WizKids 4D lines. (WizKids store front.)

Paint Brushes: Domed Drybrush

Makeup brushes are a great option, but I’ve found that the effects and results I get with a goat hair dome bristle brush differ. Most of the listings include a photo showing the dimensions of the various brushes so you can verify the sizes before purchase. I use my smaller drybrushes a lot to paint gaming scale figures.

You can see examples of results with different kinds of drybrushes here, and read about how I used dome drybrushes to paint a gingerbread man figure.

ARTIFY Drybrush Set – 5 brushes, 5 different sizes
This is not the least expensive option, but I recommend it first because Artify is an established student/crafter art supply brand whose products have received positive reviews from art product reviewers I follow. (I bought a set of these last Prime Day, but I haven’t had a chance to test with it yet!) However, I do want to note that the product they’re offering here is pretty much a direct knock-off of the gorgeous Artis Opus D Series set, minus the wood box. Almost everything inexpensive on Amazon is a knock-off.

Golden Maple Set – 6 brushes, 6 different sizes
I don’t know anything about this brand, but this option includes one additional brush size and is less expensive than the Artify set. The bristles look a little longer than I’ve seen on the typical dome brush. I suspect shorter bristles work best and allow more control, but the shape/size of these bristles is similar to makeup brushes that worked decently in my tests.

Fuumuui Drybrush Set – 6 brushes, 3 different sizes
This set is a little cheaper than the Artify. It has six brushes, but two each of three different sizes.

Sdanart Drybrush Set – 3 brushes, cheaper
If you’re new to this kind of brush and want to try one out for as cheaply as possible, this is the most inexpensive set I’ve seen. The bristles are longer than I’ve seen on the typical dome brush. I suspect shorter bristles work best and allow more control, but the shape/size of these bristles is similar to makeup brushes that worked decently in my tests.

Paint Brushes: Domed and Detail Sets

I found a few listings for sets that include the domed drybrush style brush packaged together with small detail synthetic brushes. From the photos the drybrushes do look like real goat hair, but I think all the detail brushes are synthetic. I highly recommend spending the money for a quality Kolinsky sable like Winsor & Newton or DaVinci to paint precision detail work, but having a few cheaper synthetics for rougher jobs can also come in handy.

Golden Maple 10 Combo Set – 10 brushes: 3 drybrush, 6 pointed detail, 1 flat angle
The handles of the detail brushes have a thickened triangular grip area.

Golden Maple 18 Combo Set – 18 brushes: 3 drybrush, 15 pointed detail
The handles of the detail brushes have a thickened triangular grip area.

Fuumuui 18 Combo Set – 18 brushes: 3 drybrush, 1 flat angle, 2 flat, 12 point round various sizes
If you want a mix of synthetic sizes, this set offers the most variety.

Other Paint Brushes

(Possibly) Sable Brushes
Check through these listings carefully! Some of these sets include quite large brushes that are intended for watercolour painters. Some brush sets shown are made with synthetic bristles but used deceptive search terms to show up on the search.

Note that I am not recommending any of these! My personal recommendation always is to spend the money to buy at least a couple of the brand name Kolinsky sable brushes recommended by many miniature painters. (Winsor & Newton and Da Vinci are two popular brands with mini painters.) I’ve never had a cheap sable or a synthetic brush that kept as fine a point for painting detail.

Miniature Paint Brush Sets
Due to the demand miniature painters and nail artists, the offerings for detail brushes are constantly expanding! There’s even an Amazon Basics option now. (Note that the 24 brush option on that page is for completely different much larger brushes.) The variety of shapes and sizes can vary widely among sets, and some include a carrying case or tube.

Brush Rinsers

Silicone Rinse Cup
This comes in two sizes and several colours. There are silicone nubs at the bottom of the jar to gently agitate paint out of brushes, but these are sized more to larger brushes. This product is a direct knock-off of the Paint Puck rinse cup, but may not be of the same quality.

Paint Puck Water Rinsers (Not Prime Day, but currently on sale)
The Paint Puck water rinsers come in a variety of sizes, so you can get a smaller one if that better fits your workspace. You can hang brushes along the edge to dry over the drip saucer. (Or you can remove the brush holder part if you find that gets in the way.) I have one of these for watercolour painting but have not had the chance to use it much yet.

Silicone Flower Rinse Cup
Looking for something a little more decorative? This rinser is shaped like a flower in a pot. Silicone ridges at the bottom of the flower pot help clean brush bristles. Hang them to dry between the petals, which you can also use as paint palettes. (Paint cleans easily off of silicone.) I was only going to include this as a novelty, but then I realized the product is modular so you can customize it to your needs. You can remove the flower palette for more convenient use, and the center stem is also removable.

Mini Paint Pucks (not Prime Day)
(Ignore the part where it says it’s for oil painting, these work fine in water.) Put these small silicone pucks in the bottom of whatever rinse cup you want. I used these to clean my brushes for many years. The silicone nubs are very gentle on brushes, and the textures are sized well for our smaller brushes. There is a ring of ridges around the outer edge as well as different sizes of nubs. They have suction cups on the bottom, but I find that these don’t really work and I often have to jab it down to restick it. I am currently using the Game Envy Scrubby from their recent Kickstarter. It is a weighted silicone scrub pad. It moves around a little more than I hoped. I guess my dream would be a weighted scrub with a suction cup. You can preorder the Game Envy Scrubby now.

Bottle-Fed Brush Rinser
I’m kind of astonished at how many listings there are for these, it seems like a pretty niche product to me. Some include extra features like a brush holder stand or palette, but I’m not sure how useful these are.

Electric Paint Brush Cleaner
What if you took a silicone brush texture pad and spun it on a motor? The product that answers that question is too weird for me not to share. I suspect the cup and textures are out of scale to detail brushes, but I have to admit I’m tempted to try this for larger brushes like I’d use on terrain or canvas painting because I find those such a pain to clean.

Paint Brush Storage/Travel

Check this article for more information on my experiences and recommendations, and some tips for no-buy options.

Paint Brush Cases and Rolls

Dry Palettes

Ceramic Welled Palette
None of the welled palettes on sale look close enough to my preferred palette for me to recommend. This item looks like my preferred palette and is reasonably priced. I bought mine from Cheap Joe’s, so I don’t know if this is exactly the same.

Plastic Welled Palette
If you’d like some inexpensive and lightweight plastic palettes for kids or conventions, there are several options on sale. You can get the common round 10-well palette in packs of eight (8), ten (10), twenty-two (22), or sixty (60). Compact rectangular 6-well palettes are available in packs of fifty (50) or sixty (60).

Wet Palettes

Just a few years ago the only options were homemade or the clunky Sta-Wet palette. Now there are a plethora of options!

The Army Painter Wet Palette + Refill Pack
This is one of the more expensive options in the Prime Day deals, but it is an established brand so buying refills in the future should be easy. Includes a flat bottom tray, nestling brush holder tray, lid, strap, four sponges, 100 sheets of paper. Dimensions: 13.8cm x 19.8cm

Jucoci Blue, Red, or Yellow
Just the basics. Tray with textured bottom, lid, two sponges, 100 sheets of paper. Dimensions: 17.5cm x 28.3cm

Kreapa Big Wet Palette
Just the basics, but bigger. Tray with flat bottom, clear lid, one sponge, 50 sheets of paper. Dimensions: 23.6cm x 35.5cm

Jucoci Folding Plastic Palette
The lid folds back. This doesn’t look air/water tight to me. Tray with flat bottom, hinged lid, two sponges, 100 sheets of paper. Dimensions: 14cm x 22.8cm

Kreapa Folding Palette and Brush Holder
The lid is hinged and folds back. You can set the wet palette tray on it. The bottom tray is indented to hold 10 brushes. You would need to hold the brushes down with poster tack or keep brush caps on them to protect the tips if you want to travel with this. Brushes are NOT included. This does not look air/water tight to me. Contents include brush tray, flat bottom wet palette tray, folding hinged lid, two sponges, 50 sheets of paper. Dimensions: 16cm x24cm

Smalltongue Wet Palette
This one is very inexpensive, but read the reviews, some people have issues with the sponge. The bottom tray has a built-in plastic welled palette, which could be useful or a waste of space depending on your painting set up and preferences. Uses a three step system: sponge, hydration paper, colour mixing paper. The pack includes one sponge and 50 each of the hydration and colour mixing papers. Dimensions: not specified

Funkylee Bunch O Stuff Wet Palette
This stacking system of palettes includes two welled palette trays in different configurations, one of which has an area to use as a brush holder. The bottom tray is lightly textured. Comes with two sponges, 40 sheets of paper, 6 thin plastic palette trays, a brush stand, and an elastic band to hold the layers closed. Dimensions: 6.7inches x 9 inches.

ePiiChua 2 Layer Wet Palette (not Prime Deal, but has 10% off coupon)
Stackable palettes look like an intriguing option for people with small working spaces who want more palette mixing space. The listing is for two palettes, but in the pictures they show as many as four stacked together. Reviews note that this is NOT watertight for those who want to travel with a wettened palette. Includes two clear bottom trays, one clear lid, 3 sponges, 50 sheets of paper. Dimensions: 17.5cm x 25.4cm

Studio Tools

Paint Racks
I have six of the wall-mounted acrylic shelving style racks, and I love having my paint so visible. I also have a tiered acrylic rack on my desk that holds the paints I want to have immediately to hand. The listings also includes some MDF slotted options for those who prefer that method of storage.

Silicone Mats
Silicone Mats are a great way to protect your surface from spilled paint and glue drips. You can get simple flat silicone sheets very inexpensively. There are also a wide variety of silicone painting mats that include built-in palettes, rinse cups, or other features.

Travel Lamps
If you like to take classes at a convention, I highly recommend bringing a travel lamp with you. There are always a few people who struggle to see in every class I teach. Bringing your own light can help a lot. Always check the dimensions and verify it is a portable lamp before purchasing, some sellers use deceptive search terms or photos to show up on more searches.

Magnifiers
I recommend use of a magnifier for painting detail, especially for those of us who aren’t so young. Based on personal experience, I am only comfortable recommending the Donegan brand, which does not have any products on Prime Day sale. I prefer the lighter weight OptiSIGHT visor, but I happily used the original OptiVISOR for years.

Vortex Paint Mixer
These devices agitate your paint bottles. Nowadays you can find inexpensive purpose-made mixers like these on Amazon. Back in the day we had to buy heavy and expensive refurbished lab mixers off of eBay. And even that was totally worth it! These are invaluable when you are doing maintenance on your paints (but do not replace all instances of needing to stir.) Thank you to the clever patron who let me know there were some of these available as prime deals.

Epoxy Pour Leveling Board
I had no idea this was a thing, but if I ever want to do much pouring I’ll probably get one, since the floors in my home are more warped than I am.

Organizer Boxes and Organizer Drawers
We tend to collect a lot of little bits and bobs in our hobby. These are a great way to store and organize them. Thank you to the smart reader who suggested adding these!

Sculpting Tools

Silicone Sculpting Tools
Silicone tipped sculpting tools work well to sculpt and smooth epoxy putties and bakeable clays. They were once quite pricey – each of the individual tools I have cost as much or more than these sets! This set looks the most similar in size to the ones people use for mini sculpting and conversion. This set also looks like the right size, and includes an option to buy a set with larger size tips if you sculpt terrain or larger scale figures. This combo set includes smaller and larger tips. There are several other options, many of which include other kinds of tools, but I suspect most of these intended for larger scales of sculpting.

Metal Tools
The only really small sculpting tools I’ve seen were handmade and are not often made available for commercial sale. The ones on Amazon look like the kind and size of tools commonly available for sale in HobbyTown or similar stores. So bigger than what we would ideally want, but they can come in handy for some jobs. I like the flat spatula one in this set for smoothing putty into a flat layer to cut a shape into, and it’s come in handy for other uses. This set comes in a zipper case. I bought a similar pencil case to store my sculpting tools for more than that set costs.

Tweezers
Tweezers are a useful hobby tool! They make it easier to pick up and assemble fine details, like adding flowers and leaves to bases. Use fine point ones to pull the support struts off of 3D printed miniatures. Curved or bent tip tweezers help reach into awkward corners without touching the figure. This 14 piece set includes a great mix of tweezers, incuding one reverse tweezers, and a carrying case. This inexpensive 3 piece set includes a fine point, blunt point, and curved fine point. This combo set includes nine different tweezers, a sprue cutter, and a carrying case.

Reverse Tweezers
Reverse tweezers hold an object clamped down until you press them open. This can act as a third hand and make some assembly tasks much easier. This set includes curved and straight reverse tweezers, and needle point regular tweezers. (These look like one of the ones I have, but probably not the same brand.) This set is similar, but the tweezers are set within a frame that lifts them higher above your work surface so you can work all around the item. These have ends shaped to hold different shapes of objects. They’re probably too big for most miniature hobby uses, but are too weird not to share! If you prefer all metal tools, this set has three straight and three curved tweezers.

Miniature Prep

Diamond Files
Small diamond files are my preferred tool for removing surface issues like mould lines from metal miniatures. Used with a very very light hand these can also work on some plastics, but always test in an inconspicuous area first! None of the Prime Day listings I checked gave me enough information to be confident they are the correct size. This $12 set looks very similar to the sets I’ve used. This $7 set also looks like the right size.

Clippers
I really like the Xuron brand clippers I have. They cut flush, and do not require a lot of hand strength to operate. This brand can be a little pricey, and I don’t see any on Prime Day sale. If you want to take a shot on some inexpensive ones, there are some options.

Basing Supplies

I typed in a few basing supply terms, and to my shock I found some Prime Day deals! I guess the miniature hobby has hit the big time! ;->

Static Grass

Grass Tufts

Dried Flowers
I have a collection of flowers like this, but probably not either of these brands. The smaller flowers are the perfect size for gaming scale figures. Option one, option two.

Miniatures

I found a set of townsfolk, a small set of orcs, and a set of creatures/monsters. I have no experience with this brand and have not seen the figures in person to comment on scale or quality.

Display Cases

Clear Plastic Display Case
The small case comes with four shelves, the large case has five shelves.

Painted Miniature Storage/Travel

I have an article that discusses the various options for storing and transporting painted miniatures in more detail. I was surprised to discover several cases in the Prime Deal listings! Storage and transport needs can be very specific, so you may find it worth looking at all of the carrying case options on Amazon, not just the Prime Deal ones.

Hard Case with One Layer Pre-Cut Foam
The hinged lids opens up to allow easy access to the 36 gaming humanoid sized foam slots. Includes an elastic strap to hold it shut.

Vinyl Case with Two Layers Pre-Cut and Customizeable Foam
This case hinges open, so one layer of foam is on the top half, and one is on the bottom. A vinyl flap in the middle attaches to the top half with velcro straps, but not all users found this secured miniatures sufficiently when opening and closing the case. The top layer of foam is pre-cut to standard humanoid sized figures. The bottom layer is pluck foam you can customize to size.

Hard Case with Three Layers Pre-Cut Foam
This hard plastic case has plastic latches, a handle, and comes with three layers of foam that are pre-cut to accommodate 108 gaming scale figures.

Cardboard Case with Customizable and Pre-Cut Foam
The case is cardboard with a plastic handle. So it’s lighter weight than most of the others, but not super sturdy. It comes with four trays of pre-cut foam for standard humanoid size figures, and four deeper trays of pluck foam that allow you to customize your storage slots.

Wood Case with Moveable Metal Shelves
This wooden case includes a clear plastic front panel that slides into place and a handle. The interior is slotted so you can arrange the five metal shelves at your desired heights. It weighs more than 10 pounds empty. Reviews seem mixed.

Hard Plastic Case with Moveable Metal Shelves
Hard plastic case with handle and a clear plastic front panel. The interior is slotted so you can customize the height of the five metal shelves. It weighs more than 11 pounds empty and is one of the more expensive options.

Clear Hard Plastic Case with Moveable Metal Shelves
This case is completely clear hard plastic, and includes a handle. The interior is slotted so you can customize the heights of the six metal shelves. It weighs more than 9 pounds and is one of the more expensive options.
